Going for Gold – An issue of trust!

December 11, 2011

Gold has always been a way to measure value, this value has changed over time and has become a lot more subjective to style, design, other precious materials and investment!

The following is something to think about before you make that purchase in the gold souk because you think they are offering you a ‘bargain’!

You may be worried to hear that a recent study that was done UAE-wide has shown that 35% of all gold shops had their weighing scales outside of the legal parameters. This study was executed on 800 weighing scales and a survey covering Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al-Khaimah and Fujairah will be conducted over the next two months.

“We have started with the weighing scales in jewelry shops because of the nature and sensitivity of the product,” said engineer Mohammad Saleh Badri, ESMA’s acting director general.

“Gold is an expensive commodity and any small error may have a huge impact on the economy and on the people. We will also verify weighing scales used in other business sectors beginning next year,” he added.
