The Bespoke Jewellery Trend – A Desire for Unique Beauty

Passionate fashionistas are no longer satisfied with cookie cutter jewellery – the hot trend at the moment is for one-of-a-kind bespoke pieces. It used to be that jewellery lovers wanted to wear what everyone else was wearing and would invest in signature pieces such as Cartier’s Love bracelet or Gucci’s Horsebit designs. However, this isn’t the case anymore.

Many of the hottest jewellery makers at the moment are creating beautiful bespoke requests for their clients, ranging from small alterations to existing designs or working with them to create an entirely new piece from scratch. Many jewellers are starting to offer plain rings, bracelets and necklaces that begin as canvases for their clients to select diamond settings and patterns. This experience of buying jewellery allows the consumer to participate in the process rather than just selecting from a display.

This trend might make it more difficult to buy jewellery for the special someone in your life. You can’t simply purchase the hot piece that everyone else is wearing – you must go a little bit further and look for something that is one of a kind and unique. However, when you do, this custom piece of jewellery will be so much more unique and special.

A Passion for One of a Kind Jewellery

This bespoke jewellery trend feeds into the desire for personalisation and unique beauty. This means that the independent designers who have the ability to be flexible and customise their designs are the ones people turn to when they want to create something special.

Jewellery lovers are starting to pay more attention to how their beautiful baubles are made and where they come from. Jewellery makers are responding by making their supply chains more transparent and providing customers with information about the origin of their gems. For example, customers are looking for Fairtrade gold so that they can be sure that their beautiful piece of jewellery hasn’t been the result of unfair and exploitative mining practices.

Different Types of Bespoke Jewellery

One of the more interesting types of bespoke jewellery includes the tradition of enamelling onto copper. It was Halcyon Days who initially brought this back in the 1960s and 70s, making a big impact on the Objets d’Art scene. They have even fielded commissions from the Royal Family and provided beautiful enamel boxes to the Queen, the late Queen Mother and the Duke of Edinburgh.
